Carbon Footprint Assessment for Manufacturing SMEs

A complete Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG assessment for Quebec manufacturing SMEs.

Everything is professionally documented, methodologically rigorous, and ready to submit to EcoVadis, tier 1 buyers, public procurement agencies, or financial institutions.

Does this sound like your situation?

Your Tier 1 customer sent you an EcoVadis assessment request and your carbon data section is completely empty. Your score — and potentially your supplier status — depends on what you submit.

You're bidding on a government or industrial contract that includes ESG evaluation criteria worth 10–30% of the total score. Without documented emissions data, you're losing points before the technical review even starts.

You operate in a sector subject to Quebec's RSPEDE carbon pricing system and need a rigorous GHG inventory to plan your compliance strategy before your free allocations decrease further.

You export — or plan to export — to Europe and your customers are asking about the embedded carbon in your products as the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) takes effect.

These pressures are real, they’re growing, and they require a structured, credible response. That’s exactly what this service delivers.

A complete GHG assessment built for industrial operations

We calculate your organization’s full carbon footprint across all three emission scopes, following the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard and Scope 3 Standard — the internationally recognized methodologies accepted by EcoVadis, CDP, ISO 14064-1, and virtually every industrial buyer and public procurement agency in North America and Europe.

Scope 1 — Direct emissions

On-site combustion (natural gas, propane, heating oil, diesel), industrial refrigerants, owned fleet, and any process-specific emissions from your manufacturing operations. Calculated using official ECCC Canadian emission factors.

Scope 2 — Purchased electricity

Your Hydro-Québec consumption — calculated using Quebec's official grid emission factor. For most Quebec manufacturers running energy-intensive operations on the hydroelectric grid, this is near zero. We quantify this precisely and help you communicate it as the competitive advantage it genuinely is.

Scope 3 — Supply chain emissions

The largest and most requested scope for industrial suppliers — covering purchased goods and materials, inbound and outbound transportation, waste generated in operations, and business travel. Calculated using the spend-based method in the base package, with the option to upgrade to supplier-specific primary data through the Deep Scope 3 add-on.

Packages & pricing

Base Package
Scope 1, 2 + Spend-Based Scope 3
$6,500 CAD

The base package covers your complete emissions inventory across all three scopes. Scope 3 is calculated using the spend-based method — the fastest, most practical approach for a first assessment, and fully accepted by EcoVadis and most industrial buyers.

How spend-based Scope 3 works :

We use your accounts payable or general ledger data — for example, “$150,000 spent on steel from Supplier A, $45,000 on logistics with Carrier B” — and multiply those values by industry-standard EEIO emission factors. The result is a complete, compliant Scope 3 inventory that requires zero effort from your suppliers, keeps your workload predictable, and gives you a full bird’s-eye view of your value chain emissions — typically within your overall 3–4 week timeline.

What's included :

Payment terms : 50% upon signing · 50% upon delivery

Add-on A — Deep Scope 3
Supplier-Specific Primary Data

For organizations whose Tier 1 buyers require primary supplier data rather than spend-based estimates — or who want to demonstrate actual emissions reductions when switching to cleaner suppliers.

How it works :

We identify your top suppliers by volume or spend, contact them directly to request their Product Carbon Footprints (PCFs), Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), or facility-level allocation data, and replace spend-based estimates with verified, real-world emission factors for those suppliers. This is the gold standard for EcoVadis high scorers and Tier 1 supply chain compliance — it allows you to show actual carbon reductions if you switch to a cleaner supplier, something spend-based tracking cannot demonstrate.

Why it costs more :

Identifying, contacting, and following up with external suppliers — then normalizing different data formats into a consistent methodology — is significantly more time-intensive than working with your internal accounting data. The per-supplier pricing reflects this variable workload honestly.

Pricing tiers :

Add-on B — CBAM Compliance Note
EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism
+$2,500–$4,000 CAD

For Quebec manufacturers exporting steel, aluminum, chemicals, fertilizers, or other CBAM-regulated products to the European Union.

What's included :

A technical note documenting the embedded carbon in your regulated export products in a format compatible with EU CBAM reporting requirements — based on the emissions data calculated in your base assessment. Includes product-level carbon intensity calculations and the supporting methodology documentation required for EU customs declarations.

Pricing note :

Final price confirmed after scoping call. Steel and aluminum are relatively straightforward. Chemicals, fertilizers, and mixed-material products require additional analysis and are priced toward the higher end of the range.

Year 2+ Annual Update
From $3,900 CAD

In Year 2 and beyond, your operational mapping, emission factors, and methodology are already established. The annual update is a data refresh and report regeneration — not a new assessment. We collect your latest year's operational data, recalculate all three scopes, and produce an updated report and supplier summary sheet ready for immediate submission.

Pricing recap

Quebec manufacturers have a carbon advantage most don't know how to use.

Hydro-Québec’s grid emits approximately 1.7g CO₂ per kWh — compared to ~110g in Ontario and 400–500g+ across most US manufacturing states.

If your facility runs primarily on Hydro-Québec electricity, your Scope 2 footprint is near zero. For energy-intensive manufacturing operations, this is a measurable, documentable competitive advantage over continental competitors — one that increasingly influences sourcing decisions among buyers with aggressive Scope 3 reduction targets.

We quantify this advantage precisely, document it rigorously, and help you communicate it in the language your buyers understand.

Frequently asked questions

Should I start with the Quick Scan or go directly to the full assessment?

If you have a specific, imminent need — an EcoVadis deadline, a tender closing date, a financing request — go directly to the full assessment. The Quick Scan is for organizations exploring for the first time who want to understand their situation before committing. If you’re unsure, the free scoping call will clarify it in 15 minutes.

The spend-based method uses your financial data multiplied by industry-average emission factors — fast, practical, and accepted by most buyers and EcoVadis. The Deep Scope 3 add-on replaces those averages with real data from your specific suppliers — more accurate, scores higher on EcoVadis, and allows you to demonstrate actual reductions from supplier switching. Most first-time clients start with spend-based and consider the add-on in Year 2 once they know which suppliers represent their biggest emission drivers.

No. Spend-based Scope 3 data is accepted by EcoVadis and will meaningfully improve your score compared to submitting no data at all. The add-on becomes relevant when you’re targeting Silver or Gold EcoVadis ratings, when your Tier 1 buyer specifically requires primary supplier data, or when you want to demonstrate actual supplier-level emissions reductions.

For the base assessment, plan for 4 to 8 hours of internal effort — gathering energy bills, production records, and accounts payable data using our structured template. For Add-on A, add 2 to 4 hours to help identify and introduce us to your key suppliers. The data collection template is designed to make this as efficient as possible.

Very common — and not a problem. We’re experienced in working with imperfect data. Where primary data isn’t available, we apply recognized estimation methodologies and document our approach transparently in the report. Your assessment will clearly note what was measured directly and what was estimated — which is standard practice and fully accepted by buyers and auditors.
