You have your GHG baseline. Now what?

We build a custom environmental KPI dashboard that tracks your progress and keeps you ready for the next EcoVadis cycle, tender submission, or board review without starting from scratch every time.

You completed your GHG assessment. But then what happened?

The report is sitting in a folder somewhere.
It answered the questionnaire you had at the time — but six months later, a new buyer is asking for updated figures and you're back to square one, rebuilding the same data from scratch.

Every year feels like the first year.
Collecting the data is chaotic, your contacts have changed, the files are scattered across departments, and the whole process takes weeks of internal effort that nobody has budgeted time for.

You set reduction targets but can't tell if you're hitting them.
You've invested in efficiency improvements or changed suppliers — but without a tracking system, you can't demonstrate progress to anyone. Including yourself.

You're answering the same ESG questions multiple times a year.
Different buyers, different tenders, different lenders — each time you're manually pulling the same data from different places and reformatting it from scratch. It's time-consuming and error-prone.

A GHG assessment tells you where you stand. A KPI dashboard tells you where you’re going — and gives you the data to prove it, every quarter, to every stakeholder who asks.

A complete annual performance tracking system — built around your operations

This service has three connected components that work together to turn your GHG baseline into a living management tool. Instead of an annual scramble to reconstruct your emissions data, you have a structured system that runs quietly in the background — and delivers ready-to-use outputs whenever a buyer, lender, or regulator asks.

Your Custom KPI Dashboard

A professionally built tracking tool — in Excel, Google Sheets, or Power BI depending on your team's preferences — monitoring 8 to 12 strategic environmental indicators selected specifically for your organization and sector. Includes a basic reduction roadmap with 12–24 month targets for each KPI. Updated quarterly with your actual operational data.

Quarterly Updates & Strategy Calls

Every quarter, you send us your raw utility and fuel data. We update the dashboard, analyze your progress against targets, and host a 45-minute strategy call to review your KPIs and adjust your action plan if needed. Billed on delivery — not as a monthly subscription.

What your dashboard tracks

We select 8 to 12 indicators together based on your sector, your buyers’ requirements, your reduction targets, and the data your team can realistically collect. Every indicator is SMART — specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. Every indicator drives a decision. If it doesn’t, we don’t include it.

GHG Emissions

  • Total emissions (tCO₂eq) — Scope 1 + 2 combined
  • GHG intensity per unit produced or per $revenue
  • Year-over-year emissions variance (%)
  • Progress against reduction target (%)

Energy

  • Total energy consumption (GJ or MWh)
  • Energy intensity (GJ per unit or per $revenue)
  • Natural gas vs. electricity consumption split
  • Renewable energy share (%) if applicable

Waste & Materials

  • Total waste generated (tonnes)
  • Waste diversion rate — landfill vs. recycling / composting (%)
  • Hazardous waste volume where applicable

Supply Chain

  • Share of key suppliers with GHG data available (%)
  • Progress on engaging top Scope 3 suppliers
  • Inbound transport emissions where tracked

ESG Action Plan Progress

  • Percentage of planned reduction actions completed
  • Number of funding applications submitted / approved
  • Upcoming reporting deadlines tracker

Built on tools your team already uses

The best dashboard is the one your team actually opens. We build on the platform that fits your organization — not the one that looks most impressive in a demo.

Option A
Excel or Google Sheets

Clean, structured and professionally designed with automated calculations, dynamic charts, and color-coded indicators. No new software to learn, no subscription fees, no IT involvement required.

Best for: most Quebec manufacturing and food processing SMEs with limited technical resources.

Option B
Power BI or Looker Studio

Interactive visual dashboards with drill-down capabilities, multi-user access, and easy sharing with your management team or board. Requires minimal technical setup but delivers a more polished presentation experience.

Best for: organizations with an existing Microsoft 365 environment or a team member comfortable with BI tools.

Option C
Dedicated ESG Platform

If your organization is ready for a purpose-built ESG software solution, we can recommend and configure a lightweight platform suited to SME needs — and ensure it’s properly set up to capture the indicators that matter for your specific buyers and regulators.

Best for: organizations with growing reporting requirements or multiple stakeholders requesting standardized ESG data.

KPI selection : more strategic than it sounds

The KPIs you track define what you prioritize.

Selecting your environmental KPIs isn’t just a technical exercise — it’s a strategic decision. An organization that tracks GHG intensity per unit produced is implicitly prioritizing operational efficiency. One that tracks supplier GHG data availability is implicitly prioritizing supply chain engagement. The indicators you choose determine what your team pays attention to, what gets discussed in management meetings, and where improvement efforts get directed.

During our kickoff workshop, we don’t just ask “what data do you have?” — we ask “what are your buyers actually measuring you on?”, “what commitments have you made publicly or to customers?”, and “where are your biggest risks and opportunities?” The answers shape your KPI selection. The KPI selection becomes the operational expression of your environmental strategy.

What this service covers — and what it doesn't.

This service focuses exclusively on environmental KPIs — primarily GHG emissions and related energy, waste, and supply chain indicators. It does not cover the Social (S) or Governance (G) dimensions of ESG.

A complete ESG strategy covering social performance (workplace conditions, diversity, community impact) and governance (board composition, ethics policies, risk management) requires expertise and frameworks beyond our scope. If you need support on those dimensions, we’re happy to point you toward trusted partners.

What we do cover, we cover rigorously and completely — so your environmental performance data is always credible, current, and buyer-ready.

How it Works
Initial dashboard setup in 4 Weeks

01

Kickoff & KPI Selection Workshop (60–90 min)
Week 1

We review your existing GHG baseline, understand your buyers’ reporting requirements, and select your 8 to 12 KPIs together. We confirm the dashboard platform based on your team’s tools and technical comfort.

02

Dashboard Build
Weeks 1-2

We build your custom tracking tool with pre-filled base year data from your GHG assessment, automated calculations, dynamic charts, color-coded progress indicators, and a clean buyer-ready export view.

03

Data Protocol & Reduction Roadmap
Weeks 2-3

We document exactly who collects what data, where it lives, how it gets entered, and when — and we draft your basic reduction roadmap with 12–24 month targets for each KPI. A simple, clear protocol that survives staff turnover.

04

Training & Handover
Week 4

A half-day working session with the 1 to 3 people who will use the dashboard. We walk through every feature, run a live data entry exercise, and confirm everyone is comfortable before handover. You leave the session fully autonomous.

Optional quarterly updates

01

Data reminder
2 weeks before quarter-end

We send your team a structured data request for the quarter’s figures. You gather what’s needed using the protocol established at setup — typically 1 to 2 hours of internal effort.

02

Update & analysis
First week of new quarter

We update the dashboard with your latest data, run the performance analysis, prepare the synthesis report and buyer-ready summary, and identify any flags or trends worth discussing.

03

45-minute strategy call
Week 2 of new quarter

We walk through the results together, discuss implications, note any operational changes affecting your emissions trajectory, and confirm priorities for the coming quarter.

Methodology & Standards

All KPI tracking and annual GHG updates are conducted in full consistency with your baseline assessment methodology — ensuring year-over-year comparability and defensible results.

Government funding for eligible manufacturers

Several Quebec and federal programs support the implementation of environmental performance tracking systems and the reduction actions your dashboard will identify. We flag applicable programs as part of every quarterly strategy call.

Don't have a GHG baseline yet?

This service requires a completed emissions assessment to track against. If you haven’t done one yet, start there — your baseline data feeds directly into your dashboard setup with no duplication of effort.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to have done my GHG assessment with Vertalys to use this service?

No — we work with pre-existing assessments from other providers. The setup fee is slightly higher ($5,500 vs. $4,000) to account for the time needed to review, reformat, and integrate your existing data into the dashboard. As long as your assessment follows GHG Protocol methodology and covers Scope 1, 2, and 3, we can build on it.

The quarterly data collection typically takes 1 to 2 hours of internal effort — gathering utility bills, fuel records, and basic production data using the structured protocol we establish at setup. If even that is difficult, we can discuss a semi-annual update cadence instead of quarterly, which reduces internal effort while maintaining meaningful tracking.

No — it’s significantly lighter. The full assessment (Service 02) establishes your methodology, maps your emission sources, and builds your complete inventory from scratch. The annual update is a data refresh — we recalculate using the same methodology and boundaries, just with your latest year’s numbers. It takes less time and is priced accordingly at $1,900 standalone, or included in the complete package.

We focus exclusively on environmental KPIs — primarily GHG emissions and related energy, waste, and supply chain indicators. We don’t cover the Social or Governance dimensions of ESG, which require different expertise and frameworks. If you need a full ESG dashboard covering all three dimensions, we’re happy to point you toward partners who specialize in broader ESG reporting.

KPI additions or changes are handled as minor scope adjustments — typically covered within a quarterly update if the change is small (one or two indicators), or billed as a small change order ($300–$500) if it requires rebuilding a section of the dashboard. We build the dashboard to be flexible, so most adjustments are straightforward.
